I thought we had seen the back of winter and was ready to embrace warmer weather, but there has been a chill in the air the last couple of days! If you are noticing that your skin is a little dry or your lips are starting to crack, then check out these nourishing beauty tips.
1. Hydrate
Ensure you are drinking at least 6 – 8 glasses of water a day & start the day with a warm glass of water with lemon juice to alkalize the body first thing in the morning. Avoid or reduce the amount of coffee & tea (except herbal teas) you are consuming, which dehydrate the body.
2. Moisterise
In winter, switch to a heavier moisturiser than you would normally use and make sure it is a natural, and preferably organic, product. You can even switch to something like Coconut Oil to moisterise the body – it is beautifully nourishing and your skin will drink it in quickly during dryer months. Something I love to do every morning is a Body Boost with Twenty8 Skincare products. You give yourself a massage with a combination of carrier oil, an essential oil blend and magnesium spray. It’s the most beautiful ritual.
3. Smooth Lips
Exfoliate your lips gently with an old toothbrush or a wash cloth. Hydrate your lips with a natural lip balm like Hurraw or the beautiful firming eye and lip cream, also from Twenty8.
4. Spritz
Use a hydrating spritz, such as a rosewater face mist, under your make up for extra hydration or try spritzing on top of your make up to prevent a flakey look. You can even pop a bit of moisteriser on your finger tips, rub them together softly and gently pat the moisteriser over the top of your mineral powder foundation to create a smooth, dewy look.
5. Rose Hip Oil
Give your skin some extra love with this deeply hydrating and healing oil.
6. Exfoliate
Increase circulation and get rid of dry, dead skin by using a body brush daily. Body brushing also helps to stimulate circulation, increase cell renewal and improves texture. Always brush towards the heart in long, smooth strokes and use your brush dry, before you get in the shower.
7. Bowl of Water
If you work in air-conditioning or your home is heated, then you will probably find that the air is quite drying. Placing a bowl of water near your desk will help to keep some moisture in the air. You could even use a diffuser with some beautiful essential oils to add a bit of luxury to your workspace.
8. Eye Mask
It’s important to ensure you get enough sleep AND enough water throughout the day to reduce the chance of puffy eyes. If you do wake up with puffy eyes, you can try an avocado eye mask or a cucumber eye mask. Take thin slices of organic avocado or cucumber from the fridge and apply to under the eye (for avocado) or over the whole eye (if using cucumber). Lay back for 20 minutes – bliss! This is a wonderful way to reduce puffiness.
