At just 17 years old, Macinley Butson has been named 2018 NSW Young Australian of the Year, National Youth Ambassador for Green Cross Australia and became the first ever Australian to win the INTEL International Science and Engineering fair in 67 years! Each year more than seven million high school students develop original research projects for the worlds largest science competition. Macinley took out first place with her idea, ‘Smart Armour’, a shield that can be used by breast cancer patients to dramatically improve protection to their non-treated breast while undergoing radiation.

Macinley is an inspirational role model for young Australians. She has empowered and motivated individuals to achieve greatness and inspired all of us to give back to the community.

“I’m very much looking forward to meeting my fellow Young Australian state recipients and connecting with them and talking more to them about the work that they are doing.”

– Macinley Butson

We wish Macinley all the best in her future endeavours and can’t wait to see what the future brings for this bright young girl! You can find more infomation about Macinley’s journey here.
